So I'm legally male now. wooohoo!! But I have a concerned. Do I have to register for the draft? I'm currently 25 yrs old. I heard somewhere that in order to get Financial aid ( I plan to go back to college) guys have to be registered for the draft. I had top surgery in 2008 and have been trying to save up the approximately $500 I need to go to court and change my gender on my birth certificate. I've kinda given up on that at the moment due to my financial situation but I do have enough to get a passport. Just wondering when and how i go about getting exempt from registering with the selective service. my license is changed to M and i just changed my social security today.

Registered for FAFSA today, and I am one of the guys who will need the exempt letter for the selective service because I didnt transition legally until I was 26. My questiion is not how do I do it because I already know this. What I want to know is exactly what the letter says when you put that you are trans on the form. I thought I would share my recent experience with various, intersecting bureaucracies involving government agencies.
